INTRO

Today is February 19, 2008.

At this very second I'm sitting in English 105, trying to create a blog. I don't know much about blogs and haven't really read or payed attention to these types of sites. So when presented with this assignment I wasn't quite sure what my blog would be about.
Eventually I chose to write about growing up in Hawaii and the transition to Arizona. I thought that this would be interesting because I'm coming from a place that's surrounded by water and lots of warm weather, to a place that's land locked and actually has distinct seasons.
So to start off growing up in Hawaii was pretty much like a permanent vacation. If I felt like going to the beach, at most it was about a 20 minute drive to the nearest beach. If I felt like getting a tan, any day of the year I could just lay out in my yard to soak up the sun.  From kindergarden to fifth grade I went to an Public school near my house called Mililani Elementary School, from sixth to twelfth grade I went to a private school called Mid-Pacific Institute.  For the most part I played sports most of my life mainly soccer and softball.  For seventeen years this was the way of life that I knew of, family, school, sports and the beach, and so this transition from my safety net, the "Rock" to a place with I had never been before, I knew was going to be a challenge for me.

Miya I totally understand what you're going through...kinda. I just recently went to Hawaii for the first time of my life and I loved it (even thought it was about 30 degrees too hot for me). I went there a couple weeks ago to visit my brother who lives there and go see the Pro Bowl. Well with that said, I love the idea that you're gonna pretty much share your life story with the class and how it is moving from such one extreme to the other. I do know what that is like. As you may recall I am "from" England. I have moved around my whole life because of the military. I spent the most time in England and it is sooooo sooooo totally different here than it was in England living near a military base. I'm not gonna lie, I dont like America! haha It's way different than what I'm used to so it's a HUGE HUGE culture shock for me as well. I am looking forward to reading about your transition compared to how I am handling it! Ciao!
